The general manager of Miyagi prefectural police announced "the number of victims of this earthquake is sure to exceed 10,000", at the antidisaster headquarter conference of Miyagi Prefecture on March 13th.

It was clarified that the number of remains that had been inspected went up to 379 only inside Miyagi prefecture.
